AWARE’s Zero Waste Heroes program featured on CBC

We were super excited that very own Zero Waste Heroes program, was featured on CBC last week! Here is a little bit about what the Zero Waste Heroes initiative does:

  • Pre-event Waste Reduction Support – The best way to reduce waste is to not produce it in the first place, so our primary goal is to reduce event waste. The second best way involves ensuring events only produce re-usable, compostable and recyclable items. AWARE assists event organisers to work through the various waste types generated by an event and finding zero waste friendly solutions.
  • Day of Zero Waste Stations – Our knowledgeable Zero Waste Heroes staff oversee hosted waste segregation stations throughout an event. These stations act as collection points for event waste, create an opportunity to educate event attendees on reducing their own waste and help people understand why an event chose to pursue a zero waste goal.
  • Post-event diversion follow-up – AWARE monitors event diversion weights and provides a recommendations report, which showcases an events successes and identifies areas for improvement. This data creates a baseline which can be used as a target to beat in years to come.
