Earlier this week, we shared Dave Heighway’s sto Earlier this week, we shared Dave Heighway’s story about how he goes by bike. Here are his top tips: 🚲Try an e-bike for commuting - Whistler’s a hilly place! E-bikes aren’t about replacing bike trips, they’re about replacing car trips. People end up riding further, faster and more often on an e-bike than on a regular bike. Plus they’re cheap to operate, great for your health and you arrive un-sweaty! 🚲Get pannier bags to carry your stuff. 🚲Wear the right clothes and wear your pants outside your boots. 🚲Use a bike trailer to go to the beach - My bike trailer is a converted flat-deck that was once a bike trailer for kids, I got it for $30. I carry a cooler, BBQ, propane tank, bocce balls & umbrellas. Add another bike with a trailer and that’s a family of four ready for fun right there! Got a question for Dave? Here’s what Dave has to say: My name is Dave Heighway and I’ve been riding my bike year round in Whistler for about 10 years. I work for an e-bike company; you could say I’m an advocate for biking! One of the most amazing things about Whistler is the Valley Trail system that makes it fast, easy and safe to go everywhere by bike or e-bike; it’s even mostly plowed in the winter (use studs!). Riding instead of driving is totally doable for lots of folks in this town. Get fit, have fun and reduce emissions!
