GROW Program in Full Bloom: Cultivating Community and Sustainability

Summer is in full swing, and our GROW gardeners are reaping the rewards! Spruce Grove, Myrtle Philip, and Alpha Lake Greenhouses are bursting with delicious tomatoes, cucumbers, beans, peas, herbs, and lettuces. This year’s crop of tomatoes from Goodfield Farms has been particularly abundant, and we’re sure to see some ripe red orbs soon. The outdoor gardens at Cheakamus have also enjoyed great success this year. Many of our participants have mastered the art of protecting their young seedlings from deer, birds, squirrels, and other critters, leading to an abundant harvest there as well.

Lots of edible flowers are blooming now, including nasturtium, calendula, and borage. With a good two months left in the season, we look forward to getting in another round of late-season lettuces and hope our beans can push through for another crop.

If you’re interested in GROWing your own produce and decorating your plate with home-grown blooms, register your interest for the 2025 season by emailing grow@awarewhistler.org. More information about the program is available at awarewhistler.org/project/grow.

This project is proudly presented by AWARE and is made possible by generous grant support from Whistler Blackcomb Epic Promise Foundation and the ongoing support of the Resort Municipality of Whistler.
