Winning photos will be displayed in an exhibition at the Gallery at Maury Young Arts Centre! #weareawarewhistler
Did you know that saving seeds is actually really Did you know that saving seeds is actually really easy? When you harvest the seeds of your favourite plants, you won't need to buy that seed next year (or ever again!). Reasons to save seeds: 1. A single garden plant has the potential to produce hundreds of seeds to save and grow for the next season and years beyond. Saving your seeds is a cost effective way to keep your garden and harvest flourishing for free. 2. Saving seeds from our gardens is a great way to acclimatize the plant to the specific soil and growing conditions, yielding a more resilient and productive plant 3. Once we begin our own seed collection, we can trade seeds with other gardeners and plant new varieties 4. It’s a great way to slow down and connect to our ancestors. At some point in our lineage, our ancestors likely saved seeds to ensure they could grow food and survive the next season of life 5. It’s fun! Spending more time in the garden cultivating our own sustainability brings an amazing sense of empowerment. Trust in our own resources and rely less on corporations! IMPORTANT: Seeds don’t actually have an expiration date! Regulations require seed producers to put an expiration date on each packet but seeds can germinate long after that date. Whistler is headed to the polls on October 15th! Whistler is headed to the polls on October 15th! This upcoming election is critical for issues that we as a community face, such as climate change, growth, conservation, and affordable housing. We invite all Whistlerites to come have your voices heard on October 5th as AWARE and Whistler Community Services Society (WCSS) host an All Candidates Meeting focused on conservation, climate action and community well-being. Candidates will be given time to present to community members on the issues they care about and to answer questions from the audience. This is an opportunity to create healthy dialogues around the topics that matter most to you. Make your vote count! The All Candidates Meeting is free to attend but space is limited so come early to be sure to secure a seat. We hope to see you there! Doors 5:30pm | 6pm Meeting starts | Maury Young Arts Centre
To celebrate the upcoming Fall GoByBike Weeks (Oct To celebrate the upcoming Fall GoByBike Weeks (Oct 3-16), we are excited to announce a Whistler-wide Scavenger Hunt! ⁠ ⁠ The GoByBike Scavenger Hunt is an invitation for everyone to get out on their bikes and solve some riddles along the valley trail. Follow the map to find a riddle at each E-Bike Station. The riddles are carefully crafted for the 7 unique locations. Read them carefully, look around and see how many you can solve! Prizes include: Rear bike lights, water bottles and mugs.⁠ ⁠ Play anytime between September 15 and October 16, AND if you register and log rides during GoByBike Weeks on the tracker, you will be eligible for a prize courtesy of @evocarshare . ⁠ ⁠ In partnership with @rmwhistler @evocarshare @gobybikebc⁠ ⁠ Check out our Scavenger Hunt highlights reel to get your playing card!⁠ ⁠ For more information and to register head to gobybikebc.ca/whistler

We invite you to submit your final photos and to partake in the practice of good stewardship in and around our community. Each image you submit is an opportunity to create awe and wonder for our natural world, while also serving as a reminder of its fragility. All images submitted will be part of a carefully curated exhibition displayed in the Maury Young Arts Center in collaboration with @artswhistler Submitting your photos is easy, head over to the link in our bio for more information. We are absolutely loving the new Whistler e-bike s We are absolutely loving the new Whistler e-bike share program here at AWARE. This is Katie, one of our Zero Waste Heroes who has been using the e-bikes on her weekend commute to work at the parks. Have you tried it yet? Thank you to the @RMOW and BCAA @evocarshare for partnering to make this happen! The e-bike share program will run until the middle of October so there is still time to check it out. Unlock a bike for only $1, followed by a $0.35 per minute charge - perfect for quick trips, and valley trail commutes! The RMOW will use the metrics from this demonstration to inform a request for proposals (RFP) to establish an ongoing permanent bike share system in Whistler. A huge step towards reducing GHG emissions and increasing options for sustainable transportation. Read more at whistler.ca
