AWARE 2024 Earth Week a success!

#AwareEarthWeek Inspires, Educates, and Empowers

Thanks to everyone who joined AWARE to celebrate Earth Day! We appreciate our community partners, staff and volunteers who came together to organize six events leading up to Earth Day on April 22, 2024.

This series of events would not have been possible without AWARE’s staff and fundraising committee: Chad DeAbreau, Charlotte Reid, Colleen Christie, Diana Boone, Emily Kane, Georgia Grey, Kate Woffindon, Katie Boulton, Kim Tindal, Natalie Griffiths, Sam Ray, and Sophie Harrison.

Hundreds of people joined in the Earth Week yoga class, clothing swap, biodiversity talk, Pitch-In Day, Repair Café and Party for the Planet! The feedback we heard was amazing:

  • One of AWARE’s first board members from over 30 years ago came to the Yoga class and two other original board members joined the Party for the Planet.
  • Along with 150 others, two people drove up for the Clothing Swap from Squamish and happily exchanged their pre-loved clothes for a ‘new’ wardrobe.
  • A visitor whose partner was in town for a conference joined the biodiversity talk and then decided to volunteer for Pitch-In-Day.
  • Raul the Ram chainsaw art became an iconic Earth Day celebrity. We had a real laugh promoting this guy at the event!
  • The Silent Auction got competitive!! We raised $8,300 from over 45 items donated from area businesses.

Thanks to the Whistler Blackcomb Foundation’s $15,000 contribution and Earth Week donations, we are very close to raising $30,000 in support of AWARE’s environmental initiatives in the community. These funds raised are essential to help strengthen AWARE and stay relevant in our community.

We are thankful for support from Whistler Blackcomb’s Epic Promise and DJ Lon to host the Party for the Planet at Dusty’s. This event was the culmination of AWARE’s Earth Week celebration and a chance to bring community together.

Motivating community members to get involved in climate action is a key goal for AWARE. A collective voice from citizens will help encourage governments and the private sector to take a leading role in the environmental crisis. We need to get louder and be a stronger voice!
