Zero Waste Education Workshops
Since 2017, AWARE has successfully delivered the Zero Waste Educator program for the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District (SLRD), offering engaging waste reduction workshops to schools.
The Problem We’re Facing
Waste is a major driver of environmental damage. From resource depletion to biodiversity loss and global warming, the impact is global and devastating. It’s time to change how we think about waste. Too often, it’s accepted as just a by-product of our production-driven society. But the truth is, waste is a problem, and it’s a big one.
Our Step Toward Change
AWARE is flipping the script on waste. In collaboration with the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District (SLRD), we’re delivering Zero Waste Workshops for schools. These interactive and fun educational workshops teach students the importance of waste reduction and show them that waste isn’t just a normal part of life—it’s something we need to actively avoid.
Our workshops aim to:
- Raise awareness about what ‘Zero Waste’ means and why it matters.
- Teach simple actions to reduce waste and prevent landfill buildup
- Empower students to be zero waste champions in their homes, schools, and communities by participating in hyper local climate action.
Impact & Success Stories
AWARE’s Zero Waste Education Workshops are inspiring real change in classrooms and communities across the SLRD. Since 2017, students have learned to see waste differently—and take meaningful action at home, school, and beyond.
