Priority Habitats

The Problem

Whistler’s natural areas face increasing threats from development, tourism, recreation, drought, flooding, wildfires, invasive species, and forestry.

The consequences are severe and far-reaching: loss of wildlife, degraded air and water quality, heightened vulnerability to climate change, diminished community well-being, and potential harm to the local economy.

Our Step Toward Change

AWARE empowers the community by providing free public education and community engagement opportunities that raise awareness about the importance of environmental stewardship as it relates to priority habitats in Whistler.

We support research and innovation to conserve critical ecosystems so that members of the community feel empowered to stand up to decision makers and advocate for sustainable land-use practices that safeguard biodiversity and protect priority habitats for future generations.
