April 22 marks Earth Day, a global movement that began over 50 years ago and sparked a wave of environmental awareness and action. At AWARE Whistler, we honour this legacy by hosting a full Earth Week celebration, packed with engaging workshops, thought-provoking presentations, hands-on activities, and meaningful community events.
Every year, Earth Week brings our community together to reconnect with nature, deepen our understanding of the environmental challenges we face, and—most importantly—take collective action to protect the place we call home.
What to Expect During Earth Week in Whistler
Throughout the week, we offer a series of events designed to empower Whistler residents, visitors, families, and changemakers of all ages:
- Interactive Experiences: Join in activities that make sustainability fun and tangible—like clothing swaps, repair cafés, and zero-waste stations that help reduce consumption and promote reuse.
- Thought-Provoking Talks & Presentations: Learn from local ecologists, Indigenous knowledge keepers, and environmental professionals through discussions that explore Whistler’s natural habitats, conservation priorities, and ways to take action locally.
- Movement & Mindfulness in Nature: Engage in outdoor wellness experiences—such as yoga sessions, guided walks, and mindful exploration—that connect personal well-being with environmental care.
- Community Clean-Ups: Pitch in with neighbours to clean up neighbourhoods, parks, and trails. Every glove worn and bag filled helps protect the place we call home.
- Fundraising Events & Socials: Support environmental programs by taking part in creative fundraisers like silent auctions and themed celebrations that bring the community together.
Why It Matters
Earth Week is more than a celebration—it’s a call to action. The climate crisis, biodiversity loss, and pollution are global issues with local impacts. But when we act together, we create ripple effects that lead to lasting change.
AWARE’s Earth Week programs are grounded in education, community collaboration, and hands-on stewardship. Whether you’re a long-time Whistler resident or just visiting, you’re invited to be part of this important movement.
