AWARE is a member-driven charity that works to protect the natural environment in Whistler and the Sea to Sky through advocacy and empowerment of others through science-based research, education and programming.

In Whistler, we share our home with so many differ In Whistler, we share our home with so many different animals. From dogs and cats, to bears and gophers, you never know what you might see right outside your front door. The Nature Photo category Animal Friends, is an opportunity to respect those that we share our homes with, and to serve as a reminder that they hold some real estate in Whistler too! Dens and nests are delicate homes for our furry friends and are often in unsuspecting areas such as under decks, in stumps or rock piles. When we are out enjoying our communal home, itโ€™s so important to be a good neighbor by recognizing and respecting every living thing that calls Whistler home. *Gentle reminder to please give wildlife plenty of space and to never put yourself or an animal at risk* #weareawarewhistler

The Nature Photo category: Itโ€™s The Little Things was chosen to be a great reminder to slow down and observe all thatโ€™s around you. While many of our favourite species are easily visible, there is a whole ecosystem hard at work. Hundreds of thousands of species all work together to feed, process waste, circulate water and reproduce. Every living thing has its purpose in the process! Cameras Under The Canopy category of the Nature Photo Contest is an invitation to get out there and discover some for yourself! Old growth forests are diverse ecosystems with a fundamental role in ecological processes. In fact, these irreplaceable forests are: - Crucial for BCโ€™s biodiversity - Potent carbon sinks - Essential for environmental regulation and temperature control - Able to reduce large-scale wildfires - More economically valuable when intact So go out and find some old growth, and show off your favourite image.
