Get Involved and Celebrate Earth Week 2024 in Whistler with AWARE

Every April 22, individuals from all backgrounds and walks of life unite in a global effort to advance sustainability and climate action, marking the annual Earth Day. This year, AWARE has rallied community partners to come together and celebrate Earth Day in Whistler over a series of events starting April 17, 2024.

As a registered charity, community support is vital to amplify AWARE’s impact. Here’s how to celebrate Earth Day in Whistler and bolster AWARE:

April 17: Yoga for the Planet
Connect to the earth through movement and mindfulness with an all levels Hatha yoga class at the Audain Art Museum to set your intentions for Earth Week.

April 18: Re-Love-It Clothing Swap
Reject fast fashion and swap clothes, shoes and accessories you no longer need or wear. Fill a bag of your previously loved clothes and meet us at Nita Lake Lodge to exchange them for a wardrobe refresh!

April 19: Value of Old Growth and Biodiversity Talk
Hosted by the Cheakamus Community Forest, learn how old-growth ecosystems link to biodiversity, and the wellbeing of people and the planet at a talk with Dr. Andy MacKinnon, renowned forest ecologist, educator, and co-author of Plants of Coastal British Columbia.

April 20: Pitch-In-Day + BBQ
Volunteer with Whistler community groups and roll up your sleeves to clear litter in neighbourhoods from Emerald to Function. Fuel up at a post-event community BBQ hosted by the Resort Municipality of Whistler.

April 21: Repair Café + Reimagine Your Wardrobe
Don’t toss it… repair or reimagine it with workshops and services to upcycle and repair clothing and household items. Bring your items to the Whistler Public Library and retail partners to fix and upcycle your pre-loved gear. Reduce waste and support a circular economy.

April 22: Earth Day Party for the Planet + Silent Auction
Party for the Planet: Après Style at Dusty’s in Creekside thanks to Whistler Blackcomb and supported by Vail Resorts EpicPromise. Dance, enjoy drinks, snacks and great prizes! Bid on gear, goods, and experiences in a silent auction to support AWARE.

AWARE has worked with the community for three decades to deliver bold, inspiring evidence-based solutions to the environmental issues that affect Whistler. Our world is at a pivotal moment, so a collective voice from citizens will help encourage governments and the private sector to take a leading role in the environmental crisis. Businesses, individuals, community organizations all hold power to influence change. Your own role is also vital!

Starting April 17, 2024, get involved and invite family, friends and colleagues to join AWARE and celebrate Earth Week! Visit awarewhistler.org/events today to learn more, become a member and purchase event tickets.
