Circular Economy Month: Clothing Swap

AWARE Whistler's biannual Clothing Swap

AWARE’s bi-annual Clothing Swap encourages community members to engage in sustainable fashion practices by swapping instead of shopping. This event highlights the environmental benefits of reducing waste and lowering the demand for new resources, which helps decrease the overall environmental footprint associated with the fashion industry. Participants will refresh their wardrobes and contribute to a culture of recycling and sustainability.

Location
Nita Lake Lodge, The Nita Room

Time
5.30 PM – 8 PM

Price

  • $10 If you have clothes to swap
  • $20 If you don’t have clothes to swap

How It Works

  1. Purchase your tickets in advance. A limited number of tickets will be available at the door.
  2. Check in from 5:30 PM
  3. Weigh your donation with our volunteers. We do this to track how much is diverted from landfill.
  4. Wait for all clothes to be sorted, you can visit the lounge or stay in the Nita Room lobby area while you wait for the big reveal
  5. Once the swap begins, you are free to take home anything you like—no extra charges!
  6. After you’ve got all the items you would like, head to the Lakeside Lounge and enjoy their Happy Hour deals

Know Before You Go

  • Wearable clothing only: Bring items in great condition—no rips, holes, or stains allowed.
  • All types of clothing welcome: We accept adult, youth, and kids’ clothing, as well as shoes and jewelry.
  • Arrive on time: We set up the swap as you arrive! The sooner we get the clothes in, the sooner we SWAP.
  • Bring a reusable bag: Don’t forget a bag to carry home all your fabulous new-to-you finds.
  • Have fun: This is all about community and creativity. Enjoy swapping stories as much as clothes.
  • Be kind and respectful: Respect each other’s space while swapping. Let’s keep it friendly and welcoming.

Ask from Whistler Community Services Society (WCSS)

These Circular Economy initiatives at their core are designed to ensure as much remains out of landfill as possible, and we are grateful to work closely with Whistler Community Services Society (WCSS) and the Re-Use It Centre who collect the remaining donations that are either unsold at the end of these events. What is crucial is that this service is not taken advantage of and that all items either brought to the clothing swap or the garage sale are in a condition that could be sold on by the Re-use It centre at a later date. For clothing this means no stains, holes or damaged items. For anything else, it must be in working or sellable condition. Thank you for your support in continuing our Circular Economy here in Whistler.

The Clothing Swap, organized and hosted by AWARE, is made possible through the generous support of our sponsor, the Resort Municipality of Whistler. Their backing aligns with Whistler’s Climate Action BIG MOVES Strategy: “Big Move 6: Close the loop and shift toward lower carbon consumption.”

We also extend our gratitude to Nita Lake Lodge for their donation of the Nita Room for the Spring Clothing Swap, which makes this event possible. Happy Hour at their Lakeside Lounge will be available 8 PM – 10 PM.
