Take advantage of abundant summer markets to eat local and seasonal foods. Buying food produced close to home means less transportation-related emissions and eating in-season helps prioritize foods growing under natural seasonal conditions.

was chosen to be a great reminder to slow down and observe all that’s around you.
 
While many of our favourite species are easily visible, there is a whole ecosystem hard at work.
Hundreds of thousands of species all work together to feed, process waste, circulate water and reproduce.
Every living thing has its purpose in the process!

Cameras Under The Canopy category of the Nature Photo Contest is an invitation to get out there and discover some  for yourself! 

Old growth forests are diverse ecosystems with a fundamental role in ecological processes. 

In fact, these irreplaceable forests are:

- Crucial for BC’s biodiversity
- Potent carbon sinks
- Essential for environmental 
  regulation and temperature 
  control
- Able to reduce large-scale 
  wildfires
- More economically valuable 
  when intact

So go out and find some old growth, and show off your favourite image.
